Mind Maps

October 23, 2013 @ 5:27 pm

Mind MapsMind maps are a revolutionary thinking tool invented by Tony Buzan. His most famous books are: Head First, Head Strong and The Mind Map Book.

What is the mind map ? It’s the easiest known way to install information into the head and to get information out of your head. This creative and effective way of taking notes will map out your thoughts. Mind maps use a natural structure – starting from the centre and radiate. It matches to the brain’s way of functioning. Mind maps are full of lines, colours, symbols, words and images. That guarantees interesting content for your brain in contrast to a long list of boring lines. Benefits of mind maps are enhancements in:

  • creativity,
  • productivity,
  • time management,
  • problem solving,
  • concentration,
  • thinking,
  • memory,
  • learning capacities,
  • planning,
  • communication.

If you want to make the mind map, you need: blank unlined paper, coloured pens and pencils. I prefere to make the mind maps with software. My favourite is iMindMap by Tony Buzan – the creator of mind maps. A basic desktop version is free (after a trial period of a full version). You also have iMindMap for Web and iMindMap Mobile for Apple and Android devices. Please be free to comment.

I always enjoy reading articles about mind mapping.
They are a great way to visualize a concept from start to
finish. They help me stay on track with my projects.

    Hi Roman,

Great mind map, I have to admit I never really used to take the time to do mind maps.

Although now I realize that it is a great way to get everything set up the way you want it to look before you start working on the actual product.

It can be a real time saver. I need to start using them more often..thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great day.

    Hi Roman,

In the past I wasn’t big on using mind maps, I’ve only really got into them fairly recently. I have to say they work wonderfully for me now, they just help to organise the whole thought process and makes it easier to follow.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Roman,

    Cool header.

I’ve noticed that a lot of people who have a product are also using mind maps.

I’ve not incorporated this process into my work at this time, even though I’ve got 2 different mind map program on my hard drive.

Since I’m working on several things with a partner, this could be the time to start using a mind map to keep things under focus.

    Thanks for the info, Roman.

    Hi Roman,
This sounds really interesting. I’ve not heard of it before so I will have to investigate further. I’ve been reading and implementing Dr Shad Helmstetter’s book “What To say When You Talk to Yourself”. Brilliant.

    Hi Roman,

Visualising something especially like mind maps allows one to plan better of what they may wish to achieve, and is particularly helpful when creating a product or writing a blog post. I have never used mind mapping software before, guess I’m old fashion as I much prefer the pen and blank paper method. But certainly thanks for recommending us this software.
